About this course

You already live by rhythms you never chose — morning and night, the turning seasons, the pull of the calendar. What if the Word of God could set the rhythm instead?

In this short, richly practical course, Maria Brackett — Program Director of the Spiritual Direction Certificate at Divine Mercy University — shows how Scripture becomes the daily bread that orders a whole life: the day, the week, the month, and the year. Rooted in Dei Verbum and Benedict XVI's Verbum Domini, she offers a way of praying that is receptive rather than driven, and that keeps changing as you grow. You will learn to weave the Word through ordinary time — the Eucharist and the Liturgy of the Hours, the daily examen, Sunday rest, the monthly and annual retreat, spiritual journaling — and to let the Word read you, not merely be read.

For those who accompany others, the course does double duty. The same rhythm that feeds your prayer is what keeps your reservoir full enough to give. Divine Mercy University's own scholarship on resilience, flourishing, and the integral view of the person shows why: you cannot sustainably pour out what you are not receiving.
