From the course syllabus

Sooner or later, everyone you accompany will hit a wall in prayer. The warmth goes out of it. Mass feels flat, the words of the rosary won’t come, and the person sitting across from you is frightened that their faith is slipping away. What do you actually do in that room?

This course answers that question by letting you watch it happen. In a single seventeen-minute spiritual-direction session, an experienced director accompanies a devout woman through exactly this crisis, and he does it without diagnosing, reassuring, or handing her a technique. He listens. He gives her back her own words and images. He lets her anger and her love sit in the same room. And slowly he helps her notice the one thing that has not gone cold underneath it all: her longing for God.

You will learn the relational skills at the center of both spiritual direction and clinical helping work — reflective listening, emotional validation, working with a person’s own metaphors, and holding contradictory feelings without rushing to resolve them. You will also gain the interpretive map, drawn from the Catholic spiritual tradition and from Divine Mercy University’s scholarship, that lets you recognize spiritual dryness for what it is, so that your presence with a suffering person is grounded in real understanding.
