They are hiring this course to do a job they feel unequipped for: to sit with a person on this topic without either wounding them or abandoning the truth.

About this course

Most people who carry same-sex attraction into a counseling room or a parish office have already rehearsed the decision not to speak. This short course begins with one woman's testimony about what finally made speaking possible, and turns it into a practical skill for helping professionals: how to accompany a person who experiences same-sex attraction without ever reducing that person to it.

Built around Shannon's Sacred Stories testimony, the course teaches the both/and at the heart of Catholic accompaniment, holding the fullness of the Church's teaching and the full dignity of the person at the same time, and refusing to trade either one away. Learners watch a brief, powerful testimony, then work through a formation lesson grounded in the Catholic Christian Meta-Model of the Person and in the spiritual tradition, closing with a reflection activity and an assessment.
